In a previous post I wrote about working in COVID19 times. Setting up a personal workspace is very personal (😉) and having some inspiration would definitely help. Mine evolved throughout several months and is finally at a place I’m happy with. So, let’s see what my office looks like now.

So, what have we got here:
- Front and center: a 27 inch 75hz screen, the Iiyama ProLite XUB2792QSU-B1. Not quite 4K (2560 x 1440) but big enough for now. It stands sturdy and can be tilted in all directions. Also has a USB hub on the left side.
- Right: the workhorse. A Microsoft Surface 2 laptop. Beefy enough for decent development work and light enough to carry somewhere else if needed. With a touch screen (which I barely use) and unfortunately only one USB port.
- Supporting the laptop: a laptop stance. This is a must have if you value your neck and shoulders. Nothing fancy.
- To the right: a Logitech MX Performance wireless mouse. Fits my big hands like a glove. Needs to be charged every 2 weeks and you can still use it while charging (looking at you magic mouse…). Very durable, I have it for almost 7 years already.
- Right behind the laptop: a webcam. It is in fact an old Android phone with DroidCamX, stuck on a simple camera tripod. I thought about buying a proper webcam, but this works just as well and I like reusing things.
- Simple HP keyboard with scissor switches. A numpad is required. I will maybe upgrade to a mechanical keyboard in the future, but this will do for now.
- A correctbook for making quick notes on the far right
- Cup of coffee for getting up to speed in the morning
- Two stress squishy thingies for when deadlines get close
- A plant because I need to have something green in the neighborhood.
- My favorite Lego vehicles to fiddle with during the boring meetings.
So, this is my setup. Be inspired, or let me know what yours is, so we can inspire each other 😊.
