This blog
The main reason for me writing here is for me to remember things better. I experienced that writing something down will help me memorizing it. Plus I have a nice backup note, so in case I do forget it I can just read it back.
My memory is limited, like everyone else’s. I can only remember a limited amount of things, so that means I have to choose on what to remember. And when I have to choose my memories, I will choose personal memories over anything. In some professional IT environments the ability to memorize things like algorithms or standard solutions is so large, it plays a critical role in the selection process. That is just weird to me. Why would I remember something that I can look up on the internet within seconds?
So, I look up things on the internet. All the time. Most of the time (say 95%) I can find what I need within a few minutes. The other 5% takes some extra time, or I need to think of something creative. Those thoughts are sometimes worth it to write down, so next time I don’t have to do the same research again. Maybe I remember it again, or else I can just read it back. One nice but very important thing, is that by putting it in the public space of the internet, others will hopefully find it too when they are searching for the same thing as me.
About me

Hi there! My name is Daan Wissing. I write this blog and maintain the website. I’m a software engineer, currently employed as an interim-professional, which means that I get to work on different projects with different teams, while keeping the security of having one employer. I like getting down to the details, automated testing and making sure that code can be easily changed. I prefer using existing solutions over building everything anew, and I’m critical of building stuff that seems to be unnecessary.
Apart of creating and maintaining systems, I also have a social life. On my own time, I like cooking, riding my motorcycle, spending time with my family, listening to heavy metal and reading science fiction. I care about inclusion, acceptance and helping those that need help. My pronouns are he and him.
